Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities
Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities

Forty years on from the Brixton Riots, the national Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities published its report last month. Our Lambeth Council submission to the Commission was based on sound evidence from our work to address racial inequalities in our borough and tackle the racism which persists in our society. We had hoped that the Commission would deliver an honest and equal report thoroughly addressing racial disparities across the UK. It was, however, extremely disappointing that the report did not adequately address the disproportionality black communities experience in health, education, housing, employment, and the judicial system. Equally disappointing, was that the report claims there is no actual evidence of institutional racism. Black communities across the UK will be feeling betrayed and let down by this Tory Government.
