Tulse Hill Labour News from your Tulse Hill Councillors

Some of the Lambeth’s most vulnerable children are in foster care for a variety of reasons. Lambeth has 374 looked after children and 75% of them are with foster carers (5% are in residential children homes and 35 care leavers are at university). Those who chose to foster give these children hope for better life – something Ben knows about as his family fostered for more than forty years (including children and young people from Lambeth, Wandsworth and Southwark). Lambeth Council’s new Fostering Strategy looks to improve the support to foster carers, exploring new ways to reward them by:
- Increasing the number of in-house foster carers in Lambeth
- Developing a wraparound support model for Foster Carers
- Creating a specialist foster care placements to support children and reduce changes in care for young people
Marcia is also Lambeth’s Foster Care Champion and she will be promoting foster care across the Borough with the hope that more people will be encouraged by this to come forward to look after children in need of a secure home.
