Lambeth Council has joined together with 6 other London boroughs in a partnership to deliver a Green Homes Grants scheme. Grants of up to £10,000 are available to occupants of the coldest, least energy efficient homes in the Borough. These are often the most expensive homes to heat and the aim of the scheme is both to reduce carbon emissions and lower energy bills. This programme will also help tackle fuel poverty and reduce ill-health related to cold/poorly ventilated homes. Alongside this we will be spending £1.2 million on retrofitting dozens of council homes to make them energy efficient.
With eligibility to the scheme restricted to those on incomes lower than £30,000 a year, these grants are part of our work to address the financial hardship low income families face due to high energy costs whilst the Conservative Government continues to do nothing on fuel poverty. It’s not just home home owners who can access the scheme, with landlords/tenants able to access grants of up to £5,000 if the landlord match-funds a minimum of 50%.
Examples of measure which can be funded by this scheme are new heating systems, better insulation and improved ventilation. It doesn’t matter whether its a house or a flat that needs improvements – but you must be a Lambeth resident. You can register your interest in only a few minutes and it is completely obligation free. For more information and to start the process click here.
