We were particularly pleased that this month that Labour Councillors announced plans to bring Lambeth’s leisure services back under the control of the Council. This is something Tulse Hill councillors have been calling for and Ben has been lobbying the Lambeth Council Cabinet member on the poor quality of the existing outsourced service over the last year. We pledged in the 2018 election to bring more services back in-house where we can improve the service and secure better value for money and this is another great example of us delivering on our promises.
Bringing leisure centres back under the control of the Council will allow them to be better equipped to promote healthy lifestyles for residents and provide more employment opportunities to local people with improved benefits. With the Council making the decisions, we will also be able to review concession pricing and work towards carbon neutrality of our facilities.
Lambeth’s leisure centres and pitches provide residents with a wide range of sporting activities that can keep people healthy whilst also providing much needed and appreciated community spaces. As we move forward in the development of the new service it is important that user groups and the community are involved in the design of how things work – including how we potentially expand what’s on offer locally.
