The playground on Rush Common will reopen on Saturday 28th November after being upgraded following a successful campaign by the St Matthew’s Estate Tenants and Residents Association to raise funds and a community design process. We have been supporting the work to renew the section of Rush Common between St Matthew’s Church and Brixton Water Lane and Lambeth Council is part funding the programme, with officers from the Council’s parks team managing the work.
A consultation with the community took place in the Summer of 2019 to design a new play trail and playground – as well as to feed back on the type of planting to be put in. These upgrades have been a real community effort and we are especially grateful to those residents who spared their time to join in the process – and especially to the residents from St Matthew’s Estate TRA who led on the project. Several dates are in the planner for further improvements to this section of Rush Common, including some where there will be community event days, depending on the coronavirus situation. We will keep you informed of these community events via this newsletter or email Mary to get involved:
• Trees – 9 more to be planted over the winter
• Tree trail and bird boxes – to be completed over the winter
• Play trail and picnic tables – to be installed in February 2021
• Volunteer bulb planting – dates due in March and April 2021
• Community celebration event – May 2021
